Sleep supplements have a whole section in any drug store. There are so many, gummies, pills, powders, and patches to name a few. They have many ingredients such as Melatonin, Ashwagandha, Valarian, GABA, the list is endless.
There are so many different types of supplements, and it is hard to figure out what is going to work for you. Then you also get advice like this from doctors like this “𝗧𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝘀𝗻’𝘁 𝗺𝘂𝗰𝗵 𝘀𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘀𝗲 𝗻𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝗱𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗸𝘀 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝘁𝗼 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘀𝗹𝘂𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿, 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲’𝘀 𝗻𝗼 𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗺 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗿𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺.”
If there is no research, how do we know how this is going to react to our body? I want to only use things that I know are going to work and that I know will not have harmful side effects. How do you know how all the ingredients will interact with each other or you?

This is the one big supplement that has been added to so many supplements lately. It was first used for specific issues:
• Jet Lag
• Delayed sleep-wake phase disorder
• Specific disorders in children
• Anxiety before or after surgery
Now we are using it every day. There are interactions that you must be aware of. Some people may be allergic to the supplements, there are interactions between blood thinners, and epilepsy medication and the dosages in the supplements may not match what is on the label.
The other issue is that we are now seeing overdoses of Melatonin. This has been a concern of the American Association of Sleep Medicine.
